Exhibition & Event Photography at Adelaide Showground

01 / Overview

Eight thousand square metres with not a single column — the Goyder Pavilion is the reason exhibition organisers keep coming back to Wayville. Open the wall to the adjoining Jubilee Pavilion and the floor grows to 17,250 square metres, room for 340 exhibition booths or 5,000 people in theatre mode. For a photographer, a column-free hall that size is both freedom and challenge: unbroken sightlines from any riser, but no architecture to frame against. You build your compositions from the event itself — stands, signage, crowd flow — and that takes a plan.

We've shot expos, consumer shows and festivals at the Adelaide Showground, and the plan is where every job starts.

Covering 340 booths without missing the ones that matter

Exhibition coverage lives or dies on method. Ours: a floor-map walk during bump-in to flag hero stands and sponsor commitments, systematic aisle-by-aisle coverage during the first peak session, then targeted re-shoots of any stand we caught quiet. Wide establishing frames come from the catwalk-level vantage points where the venue's rigging network allows, and we always shoot the Duncan Gallery and Atrium spaces where organisers stage VIP functions away from the floor noise. The deliverable is a gallery sorted by exhibitor — the file your sales team attaches to next year's renewal emails.

Video earns its place here too. A show-floor highlight reel with moving crowd, exhibitor grabs and drone-style sweep of the pavilion floor is the single most reused asset an expo organiser owns.

Big-shed light, and how we make it flattering

Pavilion light is its own discipline. The Goyder Pavilion is a modern shed — one of the most environmentally advanced exhibition buildings in the country, running 1,000 kilowatts of solar and a 3.5-million-litre underground water tank — and like all big halls it mixes daylight spill with high-bay lighting of varying colour temperature. Left uncorrected, that turns skin tones green and product shots muddy. We manage white balance zone by zone and carry portable lighting for exhibitor portraits and staged product frames, so a stand shot from your show looks like a catalogue image, not CCTV.

Outdoor components are easy to add: the arena and plaza spaces host festival stages, food events and vehicle displays, and afternoon light across the open ground is some of the nicest in Adelaide.

Logistics that make Wayville work

Loading is direct from Goodwood Road into the pavilion floor, so our gear (and everyone else's) rolls straight in — no dock queues eating the bump-in morning. The Showground has its own train station at the gate and sits ten minutes from the CBD, which matters when you're delivering staged VIP arrivals or a ribbon-cutting on a tight ministerial schedule. Tell us your run sheet; we'll be in position before the cars pull up.

Adelaide Showground coverage, asked and answered

Can one photographer cover our whole trade show?+

Depends on scale. Up to roughly 150 booths across one hall, yes, with a disciplined schedule. A full Goyder-plus-Jubilee show at 340 booths needs two shooters to get every exhibitor photographed during genuine traffic.

How do you deal with the mixed lighting in the pavilions?+

Zone-based white balance, RAW capture and correction in the edit, plus our own lighting for portraits and key stands. It's the difference between images that look professional and images that look like phone snaps in a warehouse.

Do you photograph bump-in and behind-the-scenes?+

Gladly — and organisers underrate this. Build-up timelapses and behind-the-scenes frames from the Goodwood Road load-in make strong exhibitor-marketing and recap-video content.

Can you shoot our outdoor festival stage and the indoor expo on the same day?+

Yes. We plan the split around your program peaks — indoor aisles during midday traffic, outdoor stage and crowd in the stronger afternoon light — and deliver both as one organised gallery within 48 hours.
