Penny Royal Launceston is not a neutral function room — it's a precinct carved into the old quarry face at the edge of the CBD, and photographing an event here means treating the cliff as a cast member rather than a background.

Two levels, a tavern and a terrace: matching coverage to the space
The restaurant's lower level takes up to 200 banquet or 350 cocktail-style, with a boardwalk and undercover terrace running off it; the wine bar upstairs holds up to 80 seated with a covered deck looking over the lagoon; Brady's Tavern adds a darker, timber-warm 80-guest cocktail space. Each room carries a different colour temperature — daylight bouncing off water downstairs, moodier tungsten in the tavern — and we balance them so a gallery that moves through all three still looks like one event. How do you handle an event that uses the whole complex?+
With a team, a map and a run sheet. A 1,000-guest cocktail event across the restaurant, wine bar, tavern and outdoor areas typically needs two to three photographers plus a videographer. We assign zones and rotate, so the quiet conversations get covered as thoroughly as the stage.
Is the water screen worth building into our event film?+
Absolutely — it's the most distinctive visual asset on site. We film projections at dusk from across the lagoon for scale, then close in for texture. Supply your logo or content in advance and we'll storyboard the sequence into your highlight reel.
What's the best month for an outdoor function there?+
December through March gives long evenings on the terrace and deck, with dusk portraits around 8.30pm. Winter events move under cover but gain the cliff floodlighting earlier in the night — honestly a fair trade, photographically.
