Peppers Silo Hotel Event & Wedding Photography

01 / Overview

Four 1960s grain silos, 35 metres of curved concrete, now a nine-storey hotel on Kings Wharf — Peppers Silo is the most architecturally distinctive event address in Launceston, and the architecture should be in your photos, not behind them. Every function space here trades on either the silo geometry or the Tamar River frontage, which gives even a twelve-person board meeting a visual identity most venues can't offer at ten times the size.

Circular rooms change how you shoot

The Gorge Room and River Room sit on the first floor of the eastern silo, seating 12 and 16 respectively — the Gorge Room in a semi-circular layout with views towards Cataract Gorge, the River Room in boardroom style with direct access to an outdoor deck. Curved concrete walls mean there are no square corners to hide in; we shoot these executive sessions wide from the doorway and tight across the table, using the window light that pours in off the water. Leadership offsites, board dinners and strategy days here produce imagery that looks nothing like a beige meeting room, which is rather the point.

Receptions along the Kings Wharf frontage

For bigger gatherings, the Kings Wharf Lounge West holds 120 for cocktails or 80 banquet-style, the Town Point Functions Room seats 70 theatre-style beside Woody's Bar, and the outdoor deck takes another 120 with the Tamar as the backdrop. Weddings at Peppers Silo follow the river's light: portraits on the deck in the last hour of sun, the silos' curve behind the couple, reception coverage inside as the wharf lights come up across the water. Same-day highlight edits are popular with couples here — the venue photographs so distinctively that a 60-second reel needs no captions.

Dinner at Grain of the Silos, details everywhere

Grain of the Silos, the hotel's farm-to-table restaurant, anchors private dinners and small corporate events, and its plating deserves the macro lens as much as the speeches deserve the long one. Around the building, detail shots come easy — raw concrete against new steel, the riverside boardwalk, hotel corridors curving with the silo walls. We build these textures into corporate galleries and wedding albums alike because they're what people remember about Peppers Silo: nobody ever asks for more photos of a lectern.

Silo-specific questions from planners and couples

Where do wedding portraits happen if the weather turns?+

Inside the silos themselves — the curved interior spaces and window bays shoot beautifully in soft weather light, and the covered deck areas keep the river in frame. Kings Wharf also offers sheltered angles along the boardwalk within a two-minute walk.

Can you photograph a board meeting without disrupting it?+

Yes — that's a standard brief in the Gorge and River rooms. We work a short, agreed window at the session's start with silent shutters and no flash, capture the working shots and river-view establishers, then withdraw. Ten minutes, done.

Is there room for a headshot station during conferences?+

The Town Point Functions Room or an adjacent lounge area takes a compact lighting setup comfortably. For something less studio-like, we shoot executive portraits against the concrete and river instead — a look unique to this venue.

What time of day is best for deck receptions on camera?+

Late afternoon through dusk. The western light falls across the Tamar, the silos catch the warm tones, and by full dark the wharf and hotel lighting take over. We schedule speeches either side of that transition so nothing important happens in the trickiest light.
