A ground-floor load-in, lift access to every level and two function centres looking straight down the oval — UTAS Stadium is one of the easier large venues in Launceston to work as a photographer, and one of the most dramatic. York Park holds 21,000 on match day, but the function spaces above the stands run year-round: conference dinners, product launches, sportsman's nights and corporate hospitality with the ground itself as the backdrop.
Two function centres above the oval
The UTAS Function Centre seats 210 banquet or 300 classroom-style, with natural daylight and views over the playing surface to the hills behind Invermay. The RACT Function Centre matches it at 210 banquet, splits into two suites for parallel sessions, and adds an outdoor terrace that earns its keep at pre-dinner drinks. Daytime events here are a gift — window light plus green turf makes clean, bright frames — while evening functions flip the equation, and we expose to keep the floodlit or darkened oval visible through the glass rather than letting windows go black.
Match-day activations at a 21,000-seat ground
Sponsor work on AFL days at UTAS Stadium runs to a different clock. Gates, concourse activations, corporate suites, half-time entertainment — each has a fixed window and no second take. Do photographers need accreditation on match days?+
For AFL fixtures, yes — media access, bibs and shooting zones are controlled by the venue and the league. We manage the accreditation process ourselves once your activation is confirmed, and we plan corporate coverage around the zones we're approved to work in.
Can you photograph a dinner and the oval in the same frame?+
That's the signature shot here. We balance interior function lighting against the floodlit ground using off-camera flash and careful timing, usually early in the evening before full dark. Tell your AV crew we'll need a short window with house lights trimmed.
Is there somewhere for staged group photos?+
Several options: the terrace off the RACT Function Centre, the stands with the oval behind, and — subject to venue approval — the boundary edge itself. Pitch-side group shots need advance clearance, so flag them when booking the space.
Can you cover breakout sessions in the corporate suites as well?+
Yes. The suites sit along one concourse, so a single shooter can rotate through 8-to-40-person sessions efficiently while a second stays on the main room. It's the most cost-effective way to document a full conference program here.
