Race days move to the clock, not to your run sheet. Gates, fashion competitions, mounting yard presentations and the races themselves all happen on schedule whether your photographer is ready or not — so at Royal Randwick we build coverage plans backwards from the race card. Between meets, the same venue flips into one of Sydney's biggest conference and exhibition spaces, and the shooting brief flips with it.
The Winx Stand's ground floor is a single hall 100 metres wide with 6.2-metre ceilings and glass that floods the space with daylight — a photographer's gift, because most rooms this size (2,222 square metres, cocktail capacity 3,000) are lit like caves. An operable wall splits it into two spaces, and upstairs two Level One rooms connect through an open-air terrace looking over the eastern suburbs. Across the full venue you can put 4,000 people at a cocktail event, with a 10-by-5-metre indoor LED screen and roughly 80 additional screens carrying sponsor content we fold into every gallery.
Corporate race-day hosting is really three shoots in one. Guest arrivals and fashion happen in bright open sun — harsh light we manage with positioning and fill. The racing itself calls for long lenses at the rail, timed to your sponsored race. Then presentations and mounting-yard moments need a shooter already in position, because a trophy handover lasts forty seconds. We run two photographers on race days as standard: one anchored to your marquee or suite, one roaming the track program.
On non-race days Royal Randwick works as a full events campus. The ground-floor hall takes a 2,030-seat theatre configuration or a 1,250-cover banquet, exhibitions run to 94 stands, and the link bridge from the car park delivers delegates straight in — free on-site parking included. We cover keynote programs, exhibition floors and awards dinners here regularly, add headshot booths that make use of all that natural light, and deliver same-day highlight edits so your closing session can screen the morning's story.
Yes — that is why we roster two shooters on race days. One never leaves your guests; the other covers the track, the mounting yard and your sponsored race presentation. The galleries merge into a single story of the day, delivered inside 48 hours.
Open turf at noon is unforgiving, so we schedule formal group shots for shaded terrace positions or the naturally lit interior of the Winx Stand, and keep midday coverage candid. Late afternoon on the terrace, with the light dropping over the course, is when portraits happen.
Very. Free parking, a link bridge from car park to venue, big loading access and daylight interiors make it one of the easier large venues in Sydney to work. Our crew can be repositioned between the ground-floor hall and Level One rooms in minutes.
Deliberately, yes. With around 80 screens plus the indoor super screen, we shoot a dedicated branding pass for your partners — logos in context, activations in use — and supply it as a separate folder for sponsor reporting.
Tell us if your date is a race day or a conference day, and we'll quote a crew shaped to it — most proposals go out within 24 hours.
