Corporate Event Photography at The Gabba, Woolloongabba

01 / Overview

A cricket ground since 1895 does not photograph like a convention centre, and that is exactly why clients book functions at the Gabba. Every frame we make in Woolloongabba trades on the same asset: a genuine, working sporting arena — home to the Brisbane Lions, the Queensland Bulls and the Brisbane Heat — sitting behind the glass of the function room. Coverage that ignores the ground misses the point of hiring it.

Function spaces with the wicket in frame

Corporate hospitality at the Gabba runs through suites and function rooms ringing the bowl, most with direct outlooks over the oval. Our standard play for dinners and networking events: arrive before guests, photograph the styled room against the lit field, then keep one wide establishing angle in reserve for when the room is full. Around 36,000–37,000 seats circle the oval, and that continuous ring of seating gives group photos taken from the concourse or field boundary a scale nothing in a hotel ballroom can match. The 2020 refurbishment lifted media and function amenities, so power, rigging and screen support for presentations are rarely a problem.

Day-night light at a floodlit Test venue

The Gabba hosted Australia's first T20 international in 2006 and its own first day-night Test in 2016, and the floodlighting that makes pink-ball cricket possible also makes evening event photography here unusually good. Once the towers come up, the turf glows and the sky deepens — we schedule balcony group shots and sponsor portraits for that transition. Inside, function lighting runs warmer than the field's cool floodlight, so we colour-balance the two zones separately rather than splitting the difference and getting both wrong. It is a small discipline that keeps windows in frame instead of blown out or green-tinged.

Sponsor days, season launches and farewell events

With the ground slated for eventual replacement after the 2032 Olympics, there is a run of lasts coming — final seasons, milestone matches, legacy dinners — and organisations connected to the Gabba are already commissioning coverage with archive value in mind. We shoot sponsor match days (signage, suite hospitality, activation zones on the concourse), corporate family days with on-ground access, and season launches where player appearances need fast, well-organised photo flows. Video crews cover keynote presentations and cut highlight reels that lean on the venue's atmosphere rather than fighting it.

Gabba event coverage — what clients want to know

Can guests get photographed on the actual playing surface?+

Sometimes, and it is worth asking early. On-ground access depends on the turf schedule and venue approval, typically arranged through your function coordinator. When it is granted, boundary-line group photos under the light towers are the images guests share for years.

How do you shoot a daytime function when the oval is in harsh sun?+

Queensland midday sun off green turf is brutal, so we frame guests in the shaded concourse and suite interiors with the field as background, exposing for faces. Full-bowl establishing shots get made early morning or late afternoon when the light rakes rather than hammers.

Do match-day media restrictions affect private function coverage?+

On AFL and cricket match days, accreditation and broadcast zones restrict where cameras operate. Your hospitality coverage is unaffected inside function areas, and we liaise with venue media staff for anything beyond them. Non-match-day events have far fewer limits.

Can you produce a highlight video of a sponsor day at the Gabba?+

Yes — a single videographer typically covers arrivals, suite atmosphere, activation zones and any presentation, delivering a 60–90 second edit within days. Same-day social cuts are available when your sponsors want content out before stumps.
